Privacy Policy

Altervest Ltd. (“Altervest”, “we”, “us”) is an independent portfolio management firm located in Brossard, Quebec, Canada. We are committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of the personal information entrusted to us by our clients and website visitors, in accordance with applicable Canadian and Quebec privacy legislation, including PIPEDA and Quebec’s Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (Law 25).

Information we collect. In the course of providing discretionary portfolio management services, we collect personal information that may include: identification details (name, date of birth, government-issued ID), contact details (address, email, telephone and mobile numbers), financial and tax information (income, net worth, account and banking details, tax residency), and regulatory know-your-client information. We collect this information directly from you, with your consent, and use it only for the purposes for which it was collected.

How we use your information. We use your information to open and administer your accounts and manage your portfolio; to meet our legal and regulatory obligations (including those of the Autorité des marchés financiers); to communicate with you about your accounts, meetings and our services, including, with your consent, by SMS text message; and to verify your identity and prevent fraud and other unlawful activity.

This website. This website does not store personal information. It has no database and no user accounts. When you send us a message through the contact form, or subscribe to our newsletter, your details are transmitted directly to our own Zoho environment, hosted on Zoho’s Canadian data centre in Montreal and Toronto, where they remain. Newsletter subscriptions use double opt-in: you receive a confirmation email and are added to the list only after you click the link in it. This site sets no cookies of any kind and stores nothing in your browser. It uses no audience measurement and no analytics service, and it makes no request to any third party when a page loads. We therefore collect nothing at all about your visit.

SMS / text-message communications. Where you have expressly opted in, Altervest may send you SMS text messages such as appointment and meeting reminders and account-service notifications. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. You may opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message, or get assistance by replying HELP or contacting us at the coordinates below. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be sold, rented, or shared with any third party.

Disclosure and safeguarding. We do not sell personal information. We disclose it only with your consent, to service providers who assist in our operations under confidentiality obligations, or where required by law or by a regulator. We maintain physical, organizational and technological safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, and we retain it only as long as necessary or as required by law.

Your rights. Subject to applicable law, you may request access to your personal information; request its correction; withdraw your consent to its use or communication; request that computerized personal information you provided to us be communicated to you, or to another person or body authorized by law to collect it, in a structured, commonly used technological format; and request that we cease disseminating your personal information or de-index any link giving access to it, where the conditions of the law are met. While we take care to keep the information on this site accurate and current, it is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind. Altervest is not liable for any damages arising from the use of this site or from reliance on its content. This site may contain links to third-party sites for convenience; we are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.
